Throw Back to 1969! Dodge Charger Vs. Ford Mustang

1969 Dodge Charger- One of the icons of early american muscle cars, the 69' charger is also one of the most desired classics of collectors.

Engines- Two engines were offered when this car was released, one was a 440 magnum with 375hp and the other was a 426 Hemi with 425hp. The 440 magnum came standard with the charger 500 and the 426 Hemi came standard with the charger R/T. I think that the perfect engines were offered for this car. The Hemi put in this car back in 1969 is what brought us the Hemi today which is offered in half of dodges new vehicles and is one of if not the most dependable engines on the road after over 40 years of working up to near perfection.

Cost- Back in 1969, the charger R/T with the Hemi was selling at just under $4,000. Today this car is worth over $70,000 because it is in such high demand by collectors. A few select models are topping out at over $200,000.

Interior and Exterior- One of the signature options given to the charger was the massive spoiler that the daytonas had. Almost all of the chargers came with leather seats and all top notch things available in 1969. Some models even had power locks and power windows which was rare.

My Opinion- The Charger has always been and always will be one of my favorite cars, especially the older ones like these. I just love the overall apperance of them and like I said before it is in the definition of early american muscle cars.

The 1969 Ford Mustang- The mustang has been an american muscle legend since it began and this year of it is no different.

Engines- There were many engines offered in these mustangs, from a small 250 3.3L I6, all the way up to a 429 7.0L V-8 Boss. I think Ford gave many engine options to this car to make it a car that could fit anyones needs, from a person who liked the looks and still wanted good gas mileage, to a person who liked to street race and could burn almost anyother car out there at the time.

Cost- In 1969 this car sold for around $3,500, but now this car is worth around the same as the charger at $70,000 if it is in good enough condition and is almost all original.

Interior and Exterior- Unlike the charger, I dont think that the mustang had any really defining outside features to it. Like the charger the interior was almost always top notch and almost always had leather and some models had power windows and locks like the charger did.

My Opinion- I honestly never really did like mustangs very much and that is no different with these. I just dont think they look as good or as much of a muscle car as the charger does. I would take the charger of the mustang anyday. I like the looks alot more and I love the Hemi engines. Regardless of my opinion though, the mustang is also one of americas original muscle car icons and has earned to be respected.
